The 60th Annual BMI Pop Awards

A huge congratulations to our BMI Pop Award winners!! Annually BMI honors songwriters and music publishers behind the year’s most-performed songs at their Pop Awards ceremony.

Chris Allen, Alain Bradley, Branden Campbell, Tyler Glenn, and Tim Pagnotta took away an award for the song “Animal” (Neon Trees). The lead single off their album Habits, “Animal” won a 2011 Billboard Music Award for Top Alternative Song and was certified platinum in 2010. It reached #1 on the US Billboard Alternative Songs chart, #2 on Billboard’s Rocks Songs and Adult Pop Songs chart, #7 on the Pop Songs Chart, and #13 on Billboard’s Hot 100.

Writer Andrew Wyatt(and member of Miike Snow), received an award for his work on Bruno Mar’s “Grenade”. “Grenade”, Bruno Mar’s second single from his debut album, Doo-Wops & Holligans, received three nominations for the 54th Grammy Awards (Song of the Year, Record of the Year, and Best Pop Solo Performance). It is the #2 Best-selling Digital Single in 2011 selling 10.5 million and reached #1 on Billboard Charts in 17 countries. “Grenade” is also certified multi-platinum in Australia, Canada, the United States, Germany, and New Zealand.

Bonnie McKee won three awards for her work on Katy Perry’s “Teenage Dream” and “Last Friday Night (T.G.I.F) and Taio Cruz’s “Dynamite”.

According to Nielsen BDS, “Teenage Dream” set a radio record for most added song in a week with 64 new stations and 14.9 million plays. It reached #1 on charts in Brazil, Ireland, New Zealand, Scotland, Slovakia, UK, and US and is certified multi-platinum in Australia, Canada, New Zealand, UK, and US. It was ranked #4 on Rolling Stone’s Best Singles of 2010 and was nominated for a Grammy Award for Best Female Pop Vocal Performance.
“Last Friday Night (T.G.I.F.)” marked Perry’s record-breaking 5th number one single to top the Billboard Hot 100 chart off one album (Teenage Dream was single #2). It topped charts in Canada, Czech Republic, Poland, Slovakia, USA, and Venezuela and is certified platinum in Australia, Italy, and New Zealand.

“Dynamite” is Taio Cruz’s fourth single off his album Rokstarr. It has been certified a whopping 7x platinum in Australia as well as 5x in the US. It also made Billboard & Nielsen Soundscan’s Top Ten Selling Digital Songs list of the digital era (1991-now) and topped charts in 7 countries.
